Beginning, 2023
Size: 12 x 28 inches
Materials: Dirt, Linen, Soil from an abandoned factory, Glue
“Beginning” is the final piece completed during the summer of 2023 in Zhengzhou, inspired by the history and temporal traces carried by abandoned factories. The materials used include soil, dust, paint chips collected from these sites, and a small amount of glue. These materials were mixed and splashed onto a structured and orderly base layer of the canvas, creating a visual effect that combines both chance and control.
The work seeks to explore the connections between time, memory, and industrial ruins through the use of material and texture. Soil and dust, as witnesses to the passage of time, not only carry the historical imprints of these abandoned spaces but also symbolize the decline of human activity and the gradual reclamation by nature. The process of creation transcends the final presentation of the work, becoming the core expression of its meaning. The selection of materials, methods of application, and the randomness inherent in their formation collectively point to reflections on spatial memory, material transformation, and the relationship between nature and humanity.
